Poppy
A bright red oriental poppy. Lovely.
Always a place for a poppy or another in a garden – there are several types to choose from (oriental, californian, welsh). The orientals give you the classic big, fat, blue-grey seedpods, and they come in a huge array of colours and colour combinations – pale pink, deep pink, purpley-pink, peachey-pink, white, white and purple, pink and purple, pillarbox red, crimson red, orange red. They have frilly petals, many petals, double petals, single petals, crinkly petals.
They are not shy flowers, they like to be the stars so either plant them en masse where they can shine, or combine them with equally showy plants for a display with a wow factor.
