Peter is a brilliant storyteller and weaves vast amounts of scientific research, facts and figures into a fascinating and easy to read narrative highlighting how what may seem like one fairly innocuous change by humans will set off an avalanche of disruption and loss which the naturally evolved networks keep in a fine and fragile balance.
Take wolves in Yellowstone national park for example. These were legally hunted and eradicated in the 19th century to protect livestock, by 1995 the devastating effects that this had on the species and habitats of the national park had been realised and wolves were reintroduced. Now that the natural networks are reinstated and the species and habitats that were lost are now returning.
There are many examples like this throughout the book and it will definitely change the way you view the natural world.
