Quince flower

The flowers of our quince tree look like tiny strawberry and vanilla icecreams! Sadly they don’t stay like this for long but happily their fruit have an amazing scent and I honestly can’t think of a comparison to describe them to you. They’re very aromatic, sweet but not sickly. If you leave them in a warm room they’ll soon fill the space with their scent.

The fruit are like pears but hard so not edible without cooking. They’re great in crumbles and fantastic as quince vodka which is a fabulous rich brandy colour.

Look out for a good tree to plant out now – whether you plan to eat the fruit, turn them into liqueur or neither, they are well worth having in your garden and an unusual addition.
